Thank you notes, worth the time

Thank you notes are in kind, a "gift for a gift". When someone thinks enough to give a gift, a thank you note is the proper response. It is simply a matter of appreciation, for a gift of a material object or a gesture. There are many rules of etiquette concerning thank you notes, from bridal to business correspondence. I will briefly touch on each.

A bride will need thank you notes with her maiden monogram on those sent prior to the wedding, and her married monogram for those to be sent following the event. These may either be monogrammed with three initials the same size, in which case her initials would appear in order, or in which the surname is larger and in the middle, with the first and last initials on each side and smaller in size. It is a matter of individual preference and both are correct. A woman usually uses a small fold over note, but may choose a correspondence card. Again, a matter of preference. A man however, generally uses a correspondence card.

Thank you notes should be written and sent as soon as possible. Sincere appreciation seems much more genuine if it is promptly expressed! The message need not be long, and generally consists of a greeting, appreciation for the item or gesture, something about the item or gesture, a suggestion of a future meeting and one's signature. A well written thank you note may be kept, either for sentimentality or future reference.

Corporate communication has different protocol that should be strictly adhered. If you wish to be someone known for being thoughtful and well-mannered, written notes thanking for gifts, meals, perks or even the smallest of favors will grant you that accolade. Recipients will be more inclined to find favour with those that go to the extra effort of writing a quick note of gratitude. It is something that requires little time or effort that could reap huge rewards! In this day and age, one can certainly benefit from an edge in the world of business. Let it be you! "Outclass the Competition" by being fortuitous enough to go the extra mile.
